media console / 2026
side tables / 2026
made from the leftover cuttings of a coffee table project
the client salvaged the materials from their apartment renovation
with hopes of giving the materials a new life
in the form of beautiful functional objects.
the cuttings already possessed intriguing shapes
and natural forms
to guide the design of the project.
pieces were joined via custom dowels
made from the same wood.
the wood originally was used for door frames
which left them riddled with nail and screw holes
that needed to be filled with handmade buttons.
the side tables were ultimately finished with tung oil
to preserve and highlight the natural characteristics of the wood.
coffee table / 2026
made from salvaged wood from door frames
and marble from a former kitchen counter
that the client saved from their home renovation project
the table was constructed using only wood-to-wood joints
and required the construction of an internal skeleton
to handle the considerable weight of the slab.
all dowels used in connections were custom made
and joints were glued using all-natural hide glue.
the table was finished with 6 coats of tung oil
to preserve and highlight the beautiful grain of the wood.
headboard / 2026
made from 178 individually crafted pieces of salvaged pine
this headboard was made to match the client's existing bed frame
while doubling as a sculptural work of art above their bed.
the pine used in this project came from a variety of sources
including shipping pallets, old cupboards and a boatyard burn pile.
each piece was crafted and joined
with a modified tongue-and-groove connection.
the back was left unfinished to display the unique history of each piece
a variety of natural stains were used to get the right shade of dark brown
and the headboard was ultimately finished with shellac.
growing desk / 2025
made from salvaged spanish cedar and iroko
pulled from the burn pile of a boatyard in vila nova de gaia.
the client and i worked together to design a desk
that would grow up with her young son.
the cedar top required a series of butterfly keys to reinforce a large split
and the legs were individually turned on the lathe.
four riser pieces were made to permanently raise the height of the desk in the future.
bar cart / 2025
made from salvaged spanish cedar and iroko
this 3 tier bar cart is a nod to mid-century design
while complementing another custom piece made fro the client.
featuring a hand carved depression on the top shelf
with contrasting wood inlay.
the bottom shelf features a repurposed aluminum safety rail
to keep bottles from falling off the cart.
all connections were made with custom split dowels.
the cart was finished with 6 coats of tung oil
to provide superior protection to the wood from liquid spills.
workbench / 2025
made from salvaged black locust, oak and iroko
this self-commissioned piece is a burly, no-frills workbench
that was built after considerable research on many classic designs.
featuring a surface of 8cm thick black locust
with legs, struts and breadboard ends made from iroko.
the legs are connected to the surface with 30mm split dowels
and the cast iron end vise features a hand-turned iroko handle.
the workbench was ultimately finished with tung oil
showcasing the wide variety of beautiful woods present in its construction.
separating table / 2024
the client needed a coffee table that would separate into 2 side tables
to accommodate a sleeper sofa in a tight space.
made from sapele wood salvaged from a construction project.
the side tables required a drop-down 3rd leg
that could be hidden away when the table was re-connected as 1 coffee table.
retractable joining pins were used
so each side table could sit flush to the wall when in use.
in order to achieve the right shade of dark brown
the table was stained with all-natural coffee and steel wool/vinegar treatments.
in the end the table was finished with 6 coats of tung oil.
venn restaurant / 2023-24
over 2 years, artist lu antram and i designed and built custom furniture
and interior elements for this renowned vegan establishment in porto.
the project was complete in several stages
to allow venn to continuously operate
throughout the design/build process.
phase 1 included bar tops,
conjoining cafe tables,
a bench with storage inside and lighting.
all elements were built from salvaged oak from gondomar
and assembled using hardware to adhere to venn's strict vegan ethos.
phase 2 involved creating an illuminated bookshelf
made from several old wooden produce crates venn had in storage.
it also included several custom mirrors pulled from the trash in porto
that served to help the space feel bigger.
for phase 3 we worked with porto metal artist chave treze
to create a sculptural wine rack from steel tubing found near a dumpster.
all wood were finished with tung oil.
to keep the project truly vegan we refrained from using any animal based products
such as hide glue, beeswax or shellac.
